At Amateka, we learn about global Black peoples to contribute to a more connected world.

Calvin is working to change the narrative. A Chicago native, Calvin moved to inspire students as a Teach for America corps member. He has since traveled to more than 50 countries as an English teacher over the past decade. In between his teaching roles in Kuwait and China, Calvin achieved his Master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Education, Policy & Management in 2018. He aspires to return to his hometown to positively impact his community. In his self-read poem, "The Rule" Calvin speaks of the unlimited hope and potential of Black men. He stamps himself as reflection of, rather than an exception to, their positive impact upon the world.
